Well, we may not have had the summer in Sydney we were hoping for, but we are still optimistic that 2022 is going to be a fantastic year!

We’re certain your post lockdown list of new restaurants and bars is long enough already so we thought we’d save you the trouble of researching and give you a couple of our new tried and tested favourites.

These venues are fairly new on the Sydney bar and restaurant scene and definitely ones to add to your 2022 wish list.

01. Esteban

The second restaurant from Atticus Hospitality Group, those responsible for well-known Paddington establishment Tequila Mockingbird, Esteban is sure to tantalise not only the tastebuds but also be a feast for the eyes with its unique décor. Set in the basement of what used to be a print shop, this CBD taqueria, restaurant and bar boasts the largest selection of premium mezcal and tequila in the country. Nestled between York and George Streets in Sydney’s CBD, Esteban is at 1 Temperance Lane. If you are lucky enough to go, why not also enjoy some live Latin music, currently playing Wednesday to Saturday from 6.30pm in the laneway.

02. Tequila Daisy

Already sampled the signature Margarita board as Esteban? Why not roll a long lunch into evening cocktails and enjoy the vibrant setting at Tequila Daisy on the waterfront at Barangaroo? The name Tequila Daisy comes from the widely speculated fact that this was the original name for the now famous Margarita cocktail. Featuring a casual vibe, this venue is the perfect location to catch up with colleagues or friends for lunch, dinner or drinks and enjoy a sundowner on the banks of gorgeous Sydney Harbour. Walk ins welcome!

03. Menzies Bar

From Mexico to Europe, Menzies Bar at Carrington and Margaret Street is another newbie at the top of our 2022 list. Once again, the interiors will wow, Woods Bagot Architects and interior stylist Anna Hewett worked hard to capture the old-world European heritage of the former Menzies Hotel from the 1960s - think leather lined booths, marble floors and blackened steel. With ex-Aria chef Joel Bickford at the helm in the kitchen the bistro style menu of small and large plates won’t disappoint for a lunch or even a late-night meal (they are licensed till 2am).

04. Hinchcliff House – Lana, Grana and Apollonia

Located in the glamorous new Quay Quarter at Circular Quay, Hinchcliff House pretty much has it all. The building itself exudes history and character, an 1870s restored woodstore converted cleverly and respectfully to house three amazing venues showcasing three separate concepts. Starting at the basement level, Apollonia is the perfect location to step back in time and enjoy a signature Negroni in the Sicilian bandit’s drinking den. On the ground floor fronting Young Street, Grana is no one trick pony. Open from breakfast, lunch and dinner, this Italian Australian fusion eatery even boasts its own bakery. Finally, Lana sits on the top floor of Hinchcliff House and is said to be the jewel of Quay Quarter. Featuring an energetic vibe, luxe interiors and a focus on fresh fish and seafood the cuisine and the décor won’t disappoint. We love the pink onyx bar, exposed brick and textural art.
