We are exploring Pyrmont, another beautiful harbour playground, in our latest Sydney City guide that delivers you the perfect day in Sydney.

We’re so pleased to have expanded Pyrmont with the launch of our new office and exciting partnership with Pyrmont market leader Chervonne Papworth.

If you haven’t yet, take a look at our other guides to the perfect day in Circular Quay, The Rocks and Millers Point, Hyde Park and Surry Hills and Barangaroo to King Street Wharf.

The Itinerary

10am to 11.30am – Enjoy a lazy breakfast at Zebra Lounge

You can't get much more waterfront than the Zebra Lounge waterfront cafe and restaurant in Pyrmont. Soak up the sun and sea air and enjoy a delicious breakfast and coffee with Sydney Harbour as your backdrop. Nestled in the heart of Jacksons Landing, at the end of Harris Street, this is the best jumping-off point to enjoy your perfect day in Pyrmont.

11.30am to 1.30pm: Relish in the beauty of Pirrama Park

Formerly Pyrmont Point Park, Pirrama Park sits on the harbour foreshore at the waterfront end of Harris Street. This well-equipped park not only offers an impressive children’s playground but also plenty of space to laze around and entertain with barbeque facilities. You can even cool off and take a dip in the Pyrmont baths, whose history extends back to 1877.

To take advantage of the area’s full glory we suggest exploring the whole boardwalk and taking in the stunning real estate on offer in the area too. The residential area of Pyrmont Peninsula is known as ‘Jacksons Landing’ and is home to several prestige apartment buildings renowned in Sydney for their views and quality.

The area has a rich and fascinating history stemming from its industrial roots involving two main industry groups including quarrying sandstone and refining sugar. Notable residential property developments in the area are Elizabeth, Stonecutters, Silk and Evolve'.

1.30 pm to 3.30pm: Wine and dine at The Sydney Fish Market

Not only a local institution but a Sydney-wide institution, The Sydney Fish Markets attract both local and international tourists. This is without a doubt one of the freshest places to get seafood in Sydney.

Sitting right on the waterfront on the corner of Pyrmont Bridge Road and Bank Street, The Sydney Fish Markets boasts several casual restaurants offering up some tasty seafood dishes and beverages to the hungry Pyrmont explorer. The most recent addition, The Boat Shed, has cocktails, wines of the week and an array of food options including Pizzas, live seafood, platters, and even sashimi. If you have some time to spend we highly recommend taking a look at the schedule for the Sydney Seafood School, whose cooking experiences are set to inspire you in the kitchen. Book ahead.

3.30pm to 5pm: Peruse the streets of Pyrmont and enjoy a local museum

Walk off that lunch with a stroll around Pyrmont and take in the local sights. As we’ve mentioned the area is rich in local history. From The Sydney Fish Markets head up Miller Street, at the corner of Harris Street you will find Union Square, a sandstone square boasting quaint terrace homes from circa 1851.

Follow Union Street down towards Darling Harbour and walk up Pirrama Road where you can take in the harbour views from the wharves and world-class real estate from Sydney Wharf, Darling Island Wharf and Jones Bay Wharf. Darling Island and Sydney Wharf enjoy some of the most intimate residential waterfront settings in Sydney city.

Finally, if you have time why not take a look at one of Pyrmont’s museums both the Powerhouse Museum and the Australian National Maritime Museum will be a hit especially if you have children in tow.

5pm onwards: Savour the Pyrmont nightlife

Whether it’s a well-crafted cocktail, degustation dinner or a beautiful casual pasta at one of the local Pyrmont haunts, this area certainly has plenty on offer and won’t disappoint. We love Sokyo Bar in The Star for a high-end drink in an elegant bar. The restaurants in The Star are also all superb and deserve the advanced booking they will demand.

For a more casual, but equally delicious meal in the area, take a look at Gallon – a wine bar-style restaurant named after the 1799 purchase of the Pyrmont area for a gallon of rum. Italian restaurant and bar, Bar Zini, is also not to be overlooked - another fantastic dinner option. If time allows and dates align The Sydney Lyric Theatre boasts some amazing events including internationally recognised artists.
