The new Sydney Fish Market construction is progressing steadily, with several key milestones achieved as the project moves closer to its anticipated completion. As of January 2025 the project is said to be in its final stages, aiming to open to the public later this year.

Construction Progress

  • Structural Advancements: The building's structural framework has been completed, marking a significant milestone in the project. This accomplishment lays the groundwork for the next phases, including installing the signature roof and interior fit-outs.
  • Roof Installation: The installation of the distinctive wave-shaped roof, featuring a scale-patterned design inspired by the fishing industry, is currently underway. This architectural element will become a defining feature of the market.

Design and Features

The new Sydney Fish Market will offer a range of modern amenities and public spaces:

  • Modern Facilities: A state-of-the-art fish market designed to enhance the seafood trade and visitor experience.
  • Public Spaces: Over 6,000 square meters of waterfront promenades and dining areas will create a vibrant community hub with seamless access to the harbor.
  • Sustainable Design: Sustainable features, including a solar panel roof and rainwater harvesting systems, highlight the project’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

Operational Outlook

Upon its completion, the new Sydney Fish Market is expected to attract over 6 million visitors annually—double its current visitation. With a $750 million investment, this development will significantly boost the national seafood industry, supporting the local economy and strengthening Sydney’s position as a global seafood hub.

The new market is poised to become a landmark destination, seamlessly blending modern architecture, sustainable practices, and enhanced public amenities to create an iconic addition to Sydney's waterfront.

Confirmed Retailers

Several exciting retailers have now been confirmed as tenants at the new Sydney Fish Markets including ice creamery Cow & The Moon, Inner West café institution Dirty Red, contemporary Turkish Cuisine Efendy, Nanjing Dumplings, hatted Malaysian restaurant Ho Jiak and Doltone Hospitality Group who will partner with celebrity chef Luke Nguyen to create a flagship Southeast Asian Restaurant, as well as many others. The precinct will boast everything from deli products to fresh nuts, herbs and spices, fresh flowers and juice, making it a one stop shop for groceries, specialty food and beverage products.
