When it comes to choosing the perfect city to live there are many factors to take into consideration, especially if you are planning for your future. One of the most important things to note is what a city can offer you, in terms of development and growth, facilities and architecture.

The future of Sydney City is looking impressive with the increased commercial and residential development, environmental improvements and new infrastructure. Here’s exactly what you can expect for the future of Sydney City!

01. Commercial and Residential Development

As the population of Sydney increases, the demand for more commercial and residential developments increases as well. One such impressive plan includes the harbour front Barangaroo project named ‘Crown Tower’. The casino giant Crown Resorts is heading the project and claims it will be the tallest hotel in Sydney. This rapid transformation of Sydney CBD with the $2.4 billion luxury project will include a casino, hotel and apartment tower across 72 floors.

Similarly the stunning tower named ‘One Sydney Harbour’ designed by architect, Renzo Piano, is being developed by Lendlease setting a new benchmark for luxury living. The building broke an Australian record for the most expensive home ever sold by achieving more than $140m in 2019 for a Penthouse. It includes three towers with around 764 apartments slated for completion in 2023.

Another high-end development includes the ‘One Circular Quay’ project. This 57-storey tower is set to comprise more than 300 luxury apartments overlooking the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. This multi-billion dollar rejuvenation plan will also include laneways, retail spaces and restaurants, making it a great community hub for everyone living nearby.

02. Infrastructure

The infrastructure of Sydney is an essential part of increasing the quality of living through convenient and necessary facilities. Transportation is particularly important when it comes to looking at the services provided in a city allowing residents to travel easily. By 2024 Sydney plans to have 31 metro stations along 66 kilometers and carry up to 40,000 people per hour. This will be a great asset to living in Sydney as it aims to ease travel times and provide an array of travel options.

The metro tracks will start from Rouse Hill and go through to Chatswood under Sydney Harbour and pass the City Centre, onto Bankstown and Westmead. The rail network will increase the services from 120 to 200 an hour, reducing the peak hour rush at stations, making Sydney City siders happier.

03. Greening of Sydney

Sydney is reimagining the future of urban living with the physical greening of our urban environment. We are heading towards creating a sustainable future with greener spaces around the city making it more climate resilient. In order to improve the city’s livability profile some of the ideas that businesses like vertical farm company InvertiGro have are to introduce energy efficient light sources, recycling plastics and water/nutrient recycling.

The City of Sydney has taken the initiative to improve the landscape quality of the city with its Street Tree Planting Program involving planting over 7000 advanced street trees. The future is heavily focused on the community and people of Sydney by prioritising the lifestyle of residents and making their communities more environmentally friendly. Other propositions include creating shadier and more walkable streets and reallocating street spaces to pedestrians. Furthermore as the density of the city increases, the need for increased produce and food is paramount. Growing your own fresh produce at home can soon become a trend in every household which will benefit the agricultural and economic industry. Apartment planting is also made easy with several options like containers and plastic planters that require minimal soil and just enough sunlight, to grow your own vegetables in high rise buildings. Some apartments even have community gardens, and this is something you can expect of future city living.
