Our city of Sydney has one of the most beautiful skylines made up of several unique residential and commercial buildings. If you are new to Sydney or still getting familiar with where your next real estate purchase could be, then this is the blog for you. Whilst we can’t include all the amazing residential buildings our city offers; this list outlines a couple of the most impactful on Sydney’s stunning silhouette.
01. Bennelong Apartments
Known by many as ‘the toaster’, Bennelong Apartments sits at 1 - 7 Macquarie Street in Circular Quay. It has been home to many celebrities and affluent residents and boasts some of the most iconic views in Sydney, if not Australia, including the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The building was completed in the late 90s by PTW architects and Andrew Andersons and consists of 15 levels and 234 apartments. Bennelong Apartments is undoubtedly one of the most well-known residential apartment buildings in Sydney and has set several real estate records in Sydney and Australia.
02. Cove Apartments
It may be lesser known by name, but the architecture of Cove Apartments is widely recognised. Positioned at 129 Harrington Street in The Rocks, Cove is a Harry Seidler architectural masterpiece distinguished by its façade and wave shaped balconies. Consisting of 220 apartments over 43 levels, the building features health club style facilities with sauna, steam room, gym and 25m heated swimming pool. Since its completion in 2003, Cove has been a popular choice for modern executives, offering space for events and meetings as well as a BBQ area for casual entertaining.
03. Crown Residences of One Barangaroo
One of the latest editions to Sydney’s skyline, Crown Residences of One Barangaroo is currently one of Sydney’s tallest tower buildings and graces the Barangaroo waterfront precinct with its dominating presence. An exclusive offering of just 76 residences, it includes luxurious facilities such as a tennis court, gym, and outdoor rooftop pool, plus access to Crown Resorts’ facilities such as concierge, housekeeping, day spa and valet parking. Crown Residences at One Barangaroo has attracted some of Sydney’s most high-profile buyers as well as record prices for residential apartments in the city.
04. Macquarie Apartments
Despite being a little demurer than the other residential buildings on this list, Macquarie Apartments at 155 Macquarie Street still deserves to be included. There would not be many city skyline shots towards the west that did not feature the signature terracotta panels that flank the façade of the Renzo Piano designed, boutique building. Offering panoramas across the Botanic Gardens towards the Opera House, the world class facilities include an indoor pool, spa, sauna, gym and 24-hour concierge. Macquarie Apartments won the Australian Institute of Architects Wilkinson Award for residential housing in 2004 and features 62 apartments.
05. The Pier
Last, but certainly not least, ‘The Pier’ Pier 6/7 at 19 Hickson Road in Walsh Bay offers city dwellers unique, true waterfront living. Residents could literally almost reach out and touch the harbour bridge from their balconies making this one of the most impressive residences in Sydney city. The Walsh Bay area itself is incredibly iconic to Sydney and presents an abundance of history and significance to the harbour city. Although Pier 6/7 is a completely new structure, it’s one that was designed in harmony with its historic surroundings. Completed in 2003 The Pier offers 140 apartments, many with boat berthing facilities, as well as a 25m heated pool, 24 hour concierge, spa, gym and sauna.
